Microsoft providing LCS and entering the VoIP market


According to the report on May 20, Lin Sanyuan, assistant general manager of the Business and Sales Dept. of Microsoft Taiwan says that VoIP business will probably take off in 2005. Considering the proportion between the number of traditional switch and that of IP switch, the number of IP switch is increasing rapidly and in such a situation, Microsoft will once again acts as a platform provider. However, it is ISP rather than Microsoft who will play the most important role in this VoIP fever. With more and more enterprises using MSN service of Microsoft, Microsoft will provide a new solution --- LCS, which is oriented to enterprise customers, in June this year. It will not only enhance the safety/reliability and meet the demand for audio/video service, but also has the function of cross-platform operation.

VoIP service providers of Taiwan will provide telephone number

According to DigiTimes of Taiwai, DGT, a organ under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Taiwan, says recently that it will provide E.164 VoIP telephone numbers in three months. From July of 2001 companies without fixed network were allowed to do VoIP business, and now there are 77 small and mid sized companies engaged in this business. Chunghwa Telecom Co., also announced on May 9 that it would provide VoIP service.

NTT adopting Excel VoIP media gateway

Excel, an operator-level media gateway and server provider, announced today that it planned to enter the Japanese NTT market through the integration of NEC system. NTT will adopt the CSP2090 integrated media gateway of Excel to do VoIP business, and provide SS7 signaling support for the VoIP international business. NTT attaches much importance to the SS7 signaling support. Excel's solution makes it possible for NTT to expand the network and business and reduce the cost. CSP2900 has the function of supporting SIP and supporting comprehensive media business on a single platform.
