The number of consumers who adopt IP telephone instead of traditional telephone is growing dramatically.

According to the research report by TeleGeography, in the second quarter of this year the number of subscribers of IP telephone service in America has increased from 440,000 (last year) to 2,700,000.

This so-called "VoIP" technique is based on broadband connection. It costs much lower than traditional ones, and has much more functions, for example, through it the user can manage the voice mails on the web pages.
Sales income from VoIP service is still rather low (220 million USD only) , but this number will increase very quickly. As TeleGeography anticipates, in the coming 2 years, the sales income from such service will reach 3 billion USD.

7 million IP telephone sold by Avaya

Avaya announced recently that it has sold 7 million (lines) IP telephones, a milestone in VoIP business. Avaya also announced this was the first time that the sales volume of IP telephone exceeds that of the traditional ones.

According to the research report made by Synergy group, Avaya was the leading provider of IP telephone in the first quarter of this year, with the market share reaching 21%. Avaya has been No.1 for consecutive six seasons.

According to Synergy, VoIP is increasing at an annual rate of 70%. Synergy anticipated that the market size of IP telephone will be doubled by 2007.
