Sales income from VoIP service reached 5,500,000,000 USD in Asia in the last year

According to the latest report from In-Stat, the anticipated sales income in Asian VoIP mareket, including Japan, will increase by over 10,000,000,000 USD a year during 2005-2009.

Victor Liu, a researcher of the company says that at the end of 2004 the sales income on Asian VoIP market has reached 5,500,000,000 USD, with over 8,700,000 lines providing VoIP service. Through providing mobile services at a lower price, the long-distance call can be transmitted to IP network gradually. VoIP service providers in Asia has taken the leading position on the world market.

In-Stat forecasts that by 2009, there will be 20 million users of VoIP in Asia.

Indian telecom market opened up gradually

The Indian government has issued policies to enhance the opening of telecom market.

These policies allow more enterprises in and outside India to enter into Indian telecom market, and provide more convenience for the old and new telecom operators, such as lowering the charge for the business license of long-distance call, allowing the operators to lower the price, and legalizing the VoIP service, which is the most important.

In the announcements made by Maran, Head of the Dept. of Telecom of India, lowering the charge for business license of long-distance call is the most influential one. As a result, the charge will decrease from 15% to 6% of the total income. This policy, made for both the existing operators and the future operators, will come into force in Jan. of the next year. It is said that Indian government will lose 100,000,000 USD per year for this. The charge for entering world market of long-distnace call was reduced by over 90%, from 5,500,000 USD to 550,000 USD, and the charge for entering domestic market of long-distance call was reduced much more, from 22,200,000 USD to 550,000 USD.
