In-Stat: China¡¯s Cellular Ring-tone Download
Market Takes Its First Slide

05/07

On Monday, internet research company In-Stat released a report showing that in 2006, after three straight years of strong growth, China's cellular ring-tone download market shrank for the first time, mainly due to China's Ministry of Information's introduction of administrative regulations.

Since the double authentication system has eliminated 20% to 30% of the service provider users that are unwilling to join, the service provider¡¯s income has fallen rapidly within a short period. In-Stat analyst Raymond Yan forecasts that this year¡¯s cell phone ring-tone download market will rebound. This will be a positive effect of the healthy development of the wireless value-added services market.

In-Stat¡¯s recent research suggests that China¡¯s cellular ring-tone download market¡¯s 2006 annual income was 8.1% lower than that of 2005, or only $US703.2 million.
